Megan Dougan, from The Beauty Lounge Blyth, became a self-employed beauty therapist at the age of 17 and now at only 19, has one of the busiest beauty and brow salons in the North East of England.
We caught up with Megan to learn more about her inspiring story, learning in what way training in HD Brows increased her clientele and made her the brow fanatic she is today.
What did you do before training in High Definition Brows?
After leaving high school at 16, I completed a 1-year apprenticeship in all the classic beauty offerings such as waxing, eyelashes, spray tanning and nails.
How did the HD Brows qualification impact you?
HD Brows training has had a huge impact on my life. My client base massively increased, plus my beauty skills are being recognised nationally. It’s an amazing feeling to see your own work on various social media sites, but to also receive praise on them from the High Definition staff and Stylists makes all the hard work worthwhile.
One thing you don’t expect about the impact of the training is how you become obsessed with eyebrows!
What does an average day/week look like for you now?
There’s never a week when I don’t complete less than 40 HD Brows treatments. Some weeks even more!
Why did you decide to train with us?
I started off as a beautician doing various treatments, but eyebrows quickly became my focus. I’ve always enjoyed working on eyebrows, so it was the most natural progression for me to attend HD Brows training. It really has become a big passion of mine and I want to be up there with the very best.
Why did you decide to attend our advanced training courses?
It’s important that my clients are getting the best treatment possible so I wanted to go further and be more than just a regular Stylist – attending my Pro Refresher Assessment and Master Course was a no brainer. It allowed me to keep improving, be up to speed with the latest brow styles, products and make up finishing techniques.
Has anything changed since training to Pro / Master level?
The Pro and Master trainings helped me become more comfortable when working on different eyebrow styles. Confidence is important when offering a treatment like HD Brows and the advanced training has given me just that.
What is the most exciting part of your job? What has been a career highlight to date?
I love making my clients happy and that’s the top and bottom of it! It’s extremely rewarding when a client messages me after their treatment and tell me how happy they are with their new brows. It gives me real satisfaction!
What’s your secret to success?
I work more than hard and make sure I am always up to speed with the latest styles and techniques. I’m also a perfectionist and won’t let my clients leave until we’re both absolutely satisfied with their new brows. I think it also helps that I LOVE going to work every day!
What advice would you give to people thinking of doing the HD Brows 2-day training course?
This was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made and it would be there’s too! The training has taken my business above and beyond anything I ever expected. I really love my job, even today, it gives me total satisfaction to see a fresh set of brows.
What advice would you give to Stylists thinking of training to Pro and Master level?
You’re learning more valuable skills to improve in the treatment and give your clients the best eyebrows possible. It’s a no brainer, go for it!

Why Retailing is Crucial to Your Salon
One element of your business that you can make stress free is retail. Retail will never call in sick, desert you for another salon or cancel an appointment. Retail can be the constant that takes your salon business from breaking even to making a profit.
