The first Monday of May marks the most extravagant red carpet event of the year, the Met Gala.
The annual fundraising event symbols the grand opening of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s newest fashion exhibition and this year was about “Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between”. Fitting with Rei’s infamous Avant Garde style, and being the dress code theme of the night, it’s no surprise that the beauty looks were varied from exaggerated eyeshadows to subtle pops of pigment on the couture clad guests who walked the white (red is so last year) carpet.
If Taylor Hill’s natural beauty wasn’t enough, Patrick Ta, one of our favourite make up artists, heightened her face of perfection with a daring red smokey eye – and it wasn’t half as scary as it sounds! Taylor’s wispy full brows and fluttering faux-lashes were the ultimate make up accessory to leave us red with envy – seriously, can she be any more perfect?
GET THE LOOK: Apply and blend the Berry shadow from the High Definition Vamp Eyeshadow Palette across the full lid, softening up to the brow bone and lower lash line.
STEP ASIDE FLICK OF THE HAIR – IT’S THE FLICK OF LINER THAT REALLY MATTERED
There was nothing winged about this look, it was all meticulously precise. Singer and supermodels, AKA show stopping beauties, Hailee Steinfeld, Candice Swanepoel and Gigi Hadid applied sharp, exaggerated liner to their peachy complexions and nude lips.
ALL ABOUT THE BROWS
Lily Collins is that really you? Hair to homage the designer, porcelain skin looking purer than ever and bold brows that are just, well, perfection – when does she get it wrong?
“WHEN DONATELLA WANTS YOU TO GO BLONDE… YOU GO F*****G BLONDE”
When fashion powerhouse, Donatella Versace, envisioned the youngest Jenner’s gown for the gala, she could only see blonde. Sporting bombshell locks and jewelled couture, Kylie’s preen brows looked bolder than ever, so why does the bombshell hair and vamp brows look so good? I guess she really can pull anything off!
PEACHY KEEN JELLYBEAN
Brows aside, they really are everything – textured, full and feathered, actress Zoey Deutch looked quite simply, stunning. The light orange eyeshadow and warm peach cheeks made this a timeless look we will be dreaming about for weeks.
When does JLo not have a glow? Dressed in a sea of blue Valentino, her make up was classic JLo; apricot, honeycomb and golden. She really is the modern icon for bronzed glamour.
Make-up wizard Hung Vanngo applied a combination of peachy hues on to Selena Gomez’s lips, cheekbones and upper body. With an extended bold pink shadow being the main attraction of her Avant Garde look, everything else was much more subtle.
WHEN ALL ELSE FAILS, WEAR A RED LIP
Kendal Jenner may’ve dared to bare in her revealing threaded dress, but her bold brows and red lip is what really caught our eye. Sticking to a classic beauty look, the model brought a touch of Hollywood glamour to the New York streets and inspired us to delve in to our make-up bag for our trusty red lippy after a long bank holiday weekend.
Fashion (faux-paus), beauty and style – what’s not to love about the flamboyance of the Met Gala.
