So, how many of you have a personal Instagram that you check every day? We’re guessing that’s most of you. Now, how many of you have a business Instagram page that you dedicate the same amount of time to? Probably a lot less!
It’s not just for big brands; Instagram can be great for small businesses too. We’re sure everyone has told you need to get your salon on Instagram but have they ever explained why it’s so important and the effect it can have on your business? We’re here to explain all.
Instagram has the highest engagement rate
On social media, an engagement rate measures how your followers interact with your posts. It takes into account likes, shares and comments, which obviously we all want on our posts! Instagram has a much higher engagement rate than other social media platforms, so it’s the best place to get your work noticed. In fact, the engagement rates on Instagram are:
– 10 times higher than Facebook
– 54 times higher than Pinterest
– 84 times higher than Twitter
If you want to get people talking about your work and liking your photos, head to Insta.
Is Instagram the next Google?
As well as keeping up to date with what your friends and favourite celebs are up to, Instagram is also starting to perform a role as a search engine. 80% of users follow at least one business page, with around 60% discovering new services and treatments on the platform.
When it comes to beauty products and treatments, clients want to see exactly what they can expect from you. That’s why updating your profile with lots of before and after photos is perfect. Think of it as a digital portfolio available for everyone to see. You’ve trained hard, so be proud to share your beautiful brows.
To make sure people in your area can find you, use hashtags that include your local area so you can be found in a search. Use location tags too (this is like when you ‘check in’ on Facebook).
Visual content = memorable content
People often say that photo and video posts on social media perform better and there’s actual science to back it up.
- The human brain processes images 60,000 faster than text
- People remember 80% of what they see, as apposed to 20% of what they read
As a totally visual platform, your photos and videos are more likely to stick in a potential new client’s memory over a Facebook status update or a tweet.
